Daughters Out Fished Dad by a Long Shot

John, Izzy (10 years old), and Frankie (8 years old) Bilotta were at the Hanover Street Ramp when I arrived.  They were very excited and looking forward to catching some fish and taking an historical tour of the Patapsco River and Baltimore's Inner Harbor--rated as one of the 10 top places to visit this year.

The weather was perfect for 'a day on the water' as we all put on out PFD and headed for an old oyster bar located south on the Patapsco River.  My two deck mates, Izzy and Frankie, were very inquisitive and helpful as we set anchor.  For the next 2 hours the girls were bailing white perch as fast as I could take them off the line and re-bait.  They landed many double hook ups on grass shrimp and blood worms on light spinning tackle.  Everyone was ready to start the historical tour segment of the trip.

A few locations we visited were: the exact location where Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner,

the Key Bridge, Fort Carroll, Ft. Howard, the Chesapeake Bay, USS Comfort (hospital ship), Ft. McHenry, and many other locations before docking at the Inner Harbor Marine Center.  We then enjoyed a delicious brunch at the Rusty Scupper Restaurant while watching the water activities going on in the Inner Harbor.

We stopped one more time to catch a few more fish before calling it a day.  That last cast is always hard to make.

Oh, by the way, dad did catch a few stripers and a white perch on his fly rod.

Thanks John, Issy, and Frankie for a unforgettable trip.

Tight Lines,

Capt. Tom Hughes
