Running South to Catch Big Striped Bass
On Thursday, 1/5/06, the wind was blowing out of the southwest as we motored 45 miles south from buoy 'R1' at the entrance to Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach, VA. My catamaran hull boat took on the 2 to 3 foot waves and smoothed them out. Our cursing speed was 35 mph putting us in productive waters at 8:15 AM on the Atlantic Ocean approximately 1 1/2 miles offshore.
We first located a school of large striped bass in 35 feet of water. The fish finder lit up from bottom to 15 feet below top water. No active birds were present, but there were a large amount of anglers trolling in the same location.
It didn't take long for Chad to hook up with a nice striper on
his light spinning tackle.
This was on the other end of Chad's bent rod.
The above striper was tagged by Lew from New Jersey.
Shortly after that he also got a bent rod.
The striped bass pictured below was on the other end of Lew's
bent rod.
Justin was also catching nice striped bass throughout the day.
It was a true pleasure taking these 3 anglers from New Jersey
out on some southern waters to enjoy a day of striped bass fishing. Thanks
fellows.
