Stripers Caught on Top Water

I met Jack and his son, Jack Jr., in the upper, Upper Chesapeake Bay.  We launched at 7:00am on Thursday, 10/19/06.

The water was smooth and the skies were cloudy…a perfect day for popping top water with light spinning tackle for striped bass.  We started in the skinny water casting poppers for the first hour.  At that time the current was still and no stripers were hitting.

We moved to some deep water structure and after catching plenty white perch Jack Jr., pulled in a walleye on a Hopkins Shorty.

Surprise...Surprise

When the current started moving swiftly we headed back into 3 to 5 feet of water.  The stripers were just waiting to take top water plugs.  The action lasted for 2 hours, with the largest striper measuring 26”.
