One Proud Dad!

I had about an hour before meeting my party, on Tuesday, October 31, 2006, so I fished some skinny water in the Patapsco River and landed a 25” striper on a Smithwick Rattlin’ Rouge suspended crankbait. The fish was healthy as it swam away toward deep water. The water was not as clean as last week and the temperature was 58 degrees.

I went back to the Hanover Street Ramp and was greeted by Marty and his son Ryan. They enjoy fishing with each other and originally we were going to fish in the Patapsco River until I made the decision to cruse out to the Bay and fish the Knolls. After receiving a call from a good friend Don, we went to plan C…and headed toward the Chester River.

My catamaran moved smoothly and swiftly for the next 15 miles as we crossed the Chesapeake Bay into the Chester River. Once we moved on structure it didn’t take Ryan long to land his first keeper size striped bass on a Stingsilver 2 ounce gold spoon. Meanwhile his dad was fishing hard and landing white perch and oyster shells. It wasn’t long before Ryan landed the largest fish of the day, a 25” striped bass that put up an outstanding battle before coming to the net.

The sun was dropping fast as we stopped on Love Point to catch a few undersized stripers on 4” Bass Assassins before I had to give the ‘last cast’ call.

The trip ended the way I hope everyone would; all anglers were catching fish and a proud dad puts his arm around his son who caught the largest fish.

Thanks fellows for the memories.

Tight Lines,

Capt. Tom Hughes
