Good Friends Catching Fish!
Bill K. and J. Keeler pulled up to my house promptly at 7:00am
this morning the 1st of Nov. We got comfortable in my truck, and upon a special
request, we headed for Chesapeake Beach, MD.
The water was clean and like glass as we headed east, first stopping under a
large flock of active birds. From 9am until 12pm we were bailing nice size, fat,
white perch. They put up an excellent fight in water depths from 26’ to 38’. The
productive lures were; 1 ounce, Trout Bomb, red head with a chartreuse body
(hand made by J. Keeler), a Stingsilver, 2 ounce in silver and a Hopkins,
Shorty, 1 1/2 ounce in silver. Most perch took the lures on the drop while
jigging the bottom and others hit it on the run.
Thick School of White Perch
J. Keeler with a One of Many Doubles
We moved inside the tributary around 12:30pm and found some nice size stripers.
The most productive lure was a 7” Bass Assassin in Albino fished on a 1 1/2
ounce jig head, in water as deep as 45 feet. The most productive technique was
not jigging of the bottom, but moving the lure swiftly through the water columns
while keeping a tight line.
A Few Happy Anglers after a Good Day of Catching
The water temperature varied from 57.8 degrees in the morning to 60 degrees at
3:30pm.
Fishing Tip: When fishing in deep water fiber non-stretch line is a
must if you plan to have a productive day. This line is sensitive allowing
you to feel the fish hit and to make a good hook-up. It is costly, but well
worth the expense. This line has no memory and does not form curly cues like
monofilament does after a few trips.
For information on
spooling and knots non-stretch line please see.
