Local Stripers Still Being Caught!

I met Bill D., Bean C., and Rob R. at Chesapeake Beach on Tuesday, November 21, 2006.  I was just about to launch the Tom Cat, 22’ power catamaran when they pulled up, dressed in layers of cloths, and excited about fishing the Middle Chesapeake Bay.  With 20 mph winds coming out of the northeast I had to take them inside a tributary feeding the Bay on the eastern shore.

They were catching some stripers at our first stop…

The morning bite was just about over after we did 4 productive trips over these fish.  Catching really got tough after that as we traveled many miles checking out different structures.  Many gannets and large gulls were flying high over big balls of bait, without any striper feeding under it, as the small terns did their normal dive bombing to get their beak under the water.

Most Productive Lure:  Stingsilver, 2 ounce, short spoon in silver

Most Productive Technique:  Jigging off the bottom.  If the lure didn’t hit the bottom the stripers would not take it.

Special Thanks:  Thanks fellows for making my guiding a pleasure.

Fishing Tip:  Make snapping down a drop down enclosure somewhat easier.  Do it during the warmest part of the day, prior to your trip.  Do not waste until you hit the water to accomplish this task.

Note:  Some dates are still open for the CBBT & Atlantic Ocean.

Tight Lines,

Capt. Tom Hughes
