Catching Nice
Bluefish on Light Tackle
The sun was just below the horizon as Steve Schuman,
Steve Drazin, and I launched on the Chesapeake Bay. The seas were flat
and the wind was calm as my Twin Vee Catamaran moved swiftly south.
The water and wind conditions were ideal for sighting working birds and
nervous waters.
Our first stop was in shallow waters on the
up-current side of a fast moving rip. For the next 2 hours bailing
striped bass and bluefish was in order. The bite stopped, at this rip,
around 10:00am as the sun climbed higher above the horizon. We then
decided to search for schools of large bluefish, so we headed to deeper
waters. The move paid off as we located out first school of nice
bluefish.
Baitfish are on Top with 6 to 8 Pound Bluefish
Mixed in and Below
The bluefish were taking small epoxy flies ties on
fluorocarbon leaders rigged behind floating poppers. The bluefish shown in
this picture jumped out of the water 3 times before being landed.
Bluefishing at its Best

Fishing Tip:
Protect yourself and the fish by using a boga grip to remove it from a
rubber net. The catching becomes very exciting with this size bluefish
is landed on fly or light tackle equipment.
