Fly & Light Tackle Fishing the Chesapeake Bay

Sights Seen While Catching

Keith was at my house at 6:00am sharp on Monday, November 5, 2007 and 2 minutes later we were headed to Deale, MD to meet Suzann for a day of fishing on the Chesapeake Bay.  This trip had a little twist, it just wasn't about catching fish, even though that's a big part of any fishing trip.  I was to set up a Raymarine, C120, color chartplotter, fishfinder, GPS, radar unit and to make sure Keith had a full understanding of how to use this unit to its maximum to locate fish.

After making manual adjustments where needed Keith could then distinguish between baitfish and rockfish.  He could also use the GPS to save time, and make trips shorter across the Bay, which will save in fuel costs.  Using the chartplotter allowed us to drift over active fish again and again.  I'm sorry I didn't have any pictures to show you of this unit but I was releasing fish most of the day.

Note:  I made a mistake in my prior thread and can no longer edit it.  It should start out like this:
Finally, after cancelling trip after trip because of small craft warnings, Sunday, November 4, 2007 was fishable (not Monday, Nov 5th).

Fishing Tip: A good way to learn about the fishfinder, GPS, plotter on you boat is to take the instruction manual and go from the first to the last page and operate the unit through each step.  Studying and viewing the pictures in the instruction manual is not enough to get you familiar with the units operation.  Nothing beats 'hands on training'.  Learn what operations work better on manual instead of automatic.
