Lines & Knots
Keep it simple, strong, and productive
Using non-stretch fiber line with a fluorocarbon leader has the following characteristics
The non-stretch line has no memory and will not need changing that often. I have a few personal reels spooled with non-stretch fiber line and i've use them for over 2 years without changing. The line is tough and a pleasure to use.
Non-stretch fiber line;
has no memory - so it doesn't coil up like monofilament after a few uses.
will not twist up - allows connecting lures directly to the leader without any hardware (swivel, clip, etc.).
is stronger than its rating - needed when fighting a large fish.
passes easily through the guides - allowing for longer casts.
has a small diameter for its rating - this allows the lure to get in the strike zone faster.
doesn't belly out - allowing you to keep in contact with the lure.
is extremely sensitive - you'll know when fish hit in waters as deep as 80' (trout fishing).
has no stretch - allows for more good hook-ups.
has a long life - only cut off 1 to 2 inches of this line when changing leaders.
Spooling a spinning or baitcasting reel;
Wind the non-stretch fiber line to fill the spool.
Use a double uni knot to connect a 4' to 6' quality fluorocarbon line leader to the non-stretch fiber line.
Leader material;
quality fluorocarbon - it's abrasive resistant and very hard for the fish to see. Quality fluorocarbon line comes in 25 yard spools.
Knots needed;
double uni knot - used to attach the leader to the non-stretch fiber line. NOTE: Wet the line before pulling the lines together in Step 4.

double surgeon's loop - used from the leader to the lure. This knot allows you to change lures quickly without spending time to tie another knot. An outstanding knot when using spoons.

perfect loop knot (modified) - used from the leader to the lure. This is an excellent knot for floating lures, suspended crankbaits, vibrating lipless baits, and jigheads for soft plastic baits. It allows the lure to swing freely when being worked through the water columns. The modification is to install three wrap over the line toward the reel before pulling this knot tight.

I have tried a variety of knots and have found the ones
above to be the best to date. Size all lines heavy enough to put pressure
on the species of fish you are after.
Example: Large striped bass I recommend 30# test non-stretch fiber line teamed
with a 30# test leader on light spinning or baitcasting equipment.
